Hi! My name is Chrissie Laird, and I am so excited to be a part of Clayton Elementary's Fifth Grade Team. More importantly, I am thrilled to be your child's math teacher this year. It will be a fun and memorable year filled with rigorous learning and lots of great memories. I cannot wait to see what the year has in store for us. I cannot wait to get to know all of you. I hope your child has a wonderful year!
I was raised outside of Houston, Texas in Sugarland. Growing up, I participated in as many sports as I could, golf, tennis, volleyball, basketball, track, skiing and gymnastics. I eventually ended up falling in love with cheerleading and gymnastics. I was lucky enough to work for UCA as a professional cheerleader after high school. It was so much fun! In college I completed a degree in Psychology at Texas Christian University. Then I earned a Masters Degree in Education at Texas State University, with a minor in Gifted/ Talented Education. I married the love of my life, Charlton Laird, and we have 3 beautiful children, Connor (20), Caden (14) and Chandler (12) . My oldest attended UMASS- Lowell Honors College and played D1 lacrosse for the Riverhawks. He then decided to return to Texas and is a LONGHORN now! My middle son, who is a freshman at Bowie High School, plays the guitar and has a pressure washing business , and my daughter is a 7th grader at Gorzycki. She enjoys dancing, her friends and school. Between teaching, Texas Football Games, traveling, sports, boating and my children, I stay busy!
I have been teaching for 17 years, and my favorite grade and subject to teach is 5th grade math. I have certifications in early childhood, elementary, special education, gifted/ talented, English as a second language and physical education. I am excited to let you know that our school's fifth grade math rankings are exceptional, including having an exceptionally high masters level STAAR score percentage. My goal is to encourage, challenge and help your child develop a deep understanding and love for math, as well as feel prepared for all aspects of middle school. I am looking forward to a great year!
